If you are only looking for a set of two new tires, we recommend you get them mounted on the rear. As the driver, you will want to avoid the following:

  • Hydroplaning occurs when the tire cannot process enough water through its tread design to maintain effective contact with the road. In moderate to heavy rain, water can pool up in road ruts, depressions, and pockets adjacent to pavement expansion joints. At higher speeds, the standing water often found in these pools challenges a tire’s ability to resist hydroplaning.

Exactly when hydroplaning occurs is the result of a combination of elements including water depth, vehicle weight, and speed, as well as tire size, air pressure, tread design and tread depth. A lightweight vehicle with wide, worn, underinflated tires in a heavy downpour will hydroplane at lower speeds than a heavyweight vehicle equipped with new, narrow, properly inflated tires in drizzling rain.

If the front tires have significantly less tread depth than the rear tires, the front tires will begin to hydroplane and lose traction on wet roads before the rear tires. While this will cause the vehicle to understeer (the vehicle wants to continue driving straight ahead), understeer is relatively easy to control because releasing the gas pedal will slow the vehicle and help the driver maintain control.

However, if the front tires have significantly more tread depth than the rear tires, the rear tires will begin to hydroplane and lose traction on wet roads before the fronts. This will cause the vehicle to oversteer (the vehicle will want to spin). Oversteer is far more difficult to control and in addition to the initial distress felt when the rear of the car starts sliding, quickly releasing the gas pedal in an attempt to slow down may actually make it more difficult for the driver to regain control, possibly causing a complete spinout.

  • Blow out as a driver, you have more control of the vehicle in the front of the due to the steering control. If any possible blow out or worn down tires that have the more possibility of a blowout, you would want that to happen in the front to be able to control the pushing or pulling of the tire. If your old tire is on the rear and had a blowout, the vehicle will want to fishtail due to the push or pull of the initial force of the blowout and cause the vehicle to spin out while the driver is trying to countersteer the steering effect.
  • Traction the vehicle has more weight in the front than in the rear due to the motor, transmission and suspension components, if your front tires are low on tread you may still have traction while driving on a dry road since the weight of the front end is pushing down on the tires, while the rear needs the new tires with more traction to do what is meant to do since there is less downforce and or weight to push on the rear tires to have traction (also the cause of Hydroplaning on wet roads when worn out tires are on the rear).

All tires, including low profile, come with manufacture’s defect warranty. This warranty only covers deficiencies on tread, abnormal breakings on side wall and other defects on tires. Road hazards are not covered by this warranty. Most new highway tires come with a depth of 10/32 seconds of tread. All tires have a tread bar that measure 2/32 seconds and is the indicator for when new tires are needed. The closer to 2/32 seconds your tires are, the less control you will have on your vehicle on a rainy day or stopping distance. Obtaining new tires is a great way to ensure your ride to be suitable and smooth. After buying a new set of tires, we recommend an Alignment.

We carry hundreds of used tires. If you are looking to get a set of tires but are not in need of new ones, check out our used tire inventory! Our warehouse holds quite a bit of tires with a great variety of brands, models, sizes and tread depths available for online sales or local customers. We carry take-off tires which are considered used tires but in excellent condition. Most of these tires are from vehicles that visit our shop straight out of a dealership with customers that are ready to upgrade or change the look of their car. Take-off tires normally have anywhere from 90-99% of tread remaining and available for usage. Even though these tires are like new, they are not covered by a manufacturer’s warranty.

Our used tires are well inspected prior to sale and are repaired if needed. All plugs and patches are professionally placed on the area in which the tire is leaking. VIBE Auto Sports has very strict policies as to what used tires to sell. Our goal is to satisfy our customers with used tires that are able to last without the fear of a sudden blow-out. Repairs on the wall of a tire or bubble-like structure are a sign of a bad tire and are not for sale. We provide a 48 hr warranty on all used tires to ensure your satisfaction. We are unable to provide a more extended warranty due to the limited or no manufacturer’s warranty. Due to our prices and availability of used tires, our customers gladly recommend us to their family members and friends. We carry many sizes that are not easy to find at other local tire shops. These tires include those that are low profile, sizes 18”-26”, or simply special tires for your BMW, Ferrari, MBZ, Porsche, Bentley, Rolls Royce or Hummer.
